Payload Versus Towing Capacity: What's the Difference?

When you're loading your truck, it's important to make sure you understand the difference between the towing capacity and the payload capacity. Both ratings are based on the Gross Vehicle Weight Rating, but mistaking the two could lead to a cracked truck frame and expensive repair.

The towing capacity refers to the weight that the truck can tow behind it. Towing is much easier on the frame of the truck, and the rating is based largely on the strength of the engine and functionality of the transmission. Meanwhile, the payload capacity is the weight that can be placed directly in the truck.

To make sure that everything in your truck is working properly, bring it to the mechanics at Honda of Frontenac. Our service department will get you back on the road in Saint Louis as soon as possible.
