Honda Approves of More Stringent Fuel Economy Standards

There are some big changes coming to fuel economy regulation in the near future, and we here at Honda of Frontenac thought we'd take a moment to catch you up to speed, since we're dedicated to keeping you informed.

Specifically, there are some changes on the way to proposed legislation that is aimed at raising the fuel economy in vehicles by 2025. The original goal for the legislation was to increase the average mpg rating on a vehicle to 56.2 mpg CAFE in 2025, but that was deemed too steep. The new goal for the legislation is still impressive at 54.5 mpg CAFE, by.

What difference those two miles made, we may never know. But, the thing about this new fuel economy legislation that has us here at 885 S Lindbergh Blvd Saint Louis, MO 63131 excited is the fact that it is being embraced by Honda 100 percent.

This endorsement from Honda says a lot about their commitment to the environment and the impact that drivers have on it. It also shows that they're looking out for their customers' best interests by working harder to relieve some of the pain that many of us feel at the pump.

If this new bill is able to pass, automakers around the world who plan on entering the US market will be required to optimize their fleet-wide fuel efficiency average by five percent every year from 2017-2025. However, lawmakers also realize that larger vehicles will need to approach this goal more gradually, which is why they're proposing that trucks and SUVs be allowed to keep up at a pace of 3.5 percent per year 2017-2021, and five-percent 2022-2025.

"This is not easy, but the companies [i.e., Honda and a few others] are being very cooperative," says Ray LaHood, Transportation Secretary. "These deliberations are going on somewhere between 12 and 18 hours every day for the last several days...I think we'll get there."1

Among the top contenders aiming to knock this bill out are opposing environmental, social and political views; the cost of developing fuel-saving technologies; and the harm it could have on vehicle sales. Honda, however, has ensured that they will stand by this legislation no matter what the cost.
